The Great Saltair
It seems that the more I get out and open my eyes, the more strange places I find to point my camera at. In a recent post I stumbled across tha amazing Old Vedanta Temple, a Hindu Temple, in the middle of a San Francisco residential district. Then last week I’m on I-40 between Wendover, Nevada and Salt Lake City, Utah and decide to venture off the interstatre to see if I can get down to the shore of Great Salt Lake for a photo op. What I found was this old run down building that was kind of cool and must have been something really special in it’s heyday… whenever that was.
Since then, I found out that this place is called The Great Saltair and was built back in the late 1800′s for dancing and other recreation for the folks of Sal Lake City. It burned down in the early 1900′s and was rebuilt into this. Today it’s dilapidated and there are signs around keeping people out and I guess doesn’t amount to much but does make an interesting photograph. I did see where they do have concerts there. How nice if it were to get cleaned up and reclaimed. I wonder if anybody is thinking of doing that?
Strangely enough, Captain Photo has never been the captain of anything, except his golf team in high school. He was on a big boat once, a cuise ship, and was banned from the bridge while offering to help navigate after leaving the ship's nightclub at 3 AM.
