Since I’m not famous yet, my print prices are cheap
I had always heard that the rotunda at the San Francisco City Hall is pretty amazing! Friday I was meeting my son for dinner in The City so decided to go early and see about getting inside City Hall for some photography.
Of course, security checked my camera bag. It’s been that way ever since the Mayor Moscone incident back in the late 1970′s. Once inside though I was blown away with how cool this place is and spent the next hour or more exploring all three floors and all angles of City Hall.
Was I alone? Heck, it looked like a photo workshop there were so many photographers there! One woman was doing a photo shoot, looked like for engagement photos for a cute young couple. It’s so great when places like this remain so photo-friendly. Even tripods are allowed.
Well, I got some shots of the rotunda and have not taken on processing any of those yet, even though that was my mission. This photo caught my eye as I was reviewing the thumbnails in Lightroom after importing from the SD card. It’s an alcove off the main rotunda of City Hall where all the elevators are. One thing I’ve learned about HDR processing over time is that photos such as these can turn out really awesome. Something about the play of light, the different color temperatures of the light in the scene, and having a lot of concrete in the frame doesn’t hurt either. The original frame is pretty boring but after adding some color contract with NIK Color eFex Pro 4, the image started popping and led me in the direction of the finished HDR photo above that I finished in Lightroom.
I’ll do the rotunda soon. By the way, dinner with my son turned out to be an engagement announcement!

Great shot, Keith! Love that little girl there, she adds a touch of tension to the whole scene. Fabulous. Congratulations on the very exciting news regarding the engagement, what a terrific turn of events!! We’re really happy for you all!

It’s great that you stopped by long enough to find that little girl going up the stairs. Another lucky capture. My son also announcing his lucky capture that day made it super special.
