A Visit to the Maharaja’s Palace

One afternoon in Bangalore, three of us jumped into a Rickshaw and motored off to see the Maharaja’s Palace.  For the first time in India, when we arrived we were puzzled  because there were virtually no people there at all.  We wondered if it was closed.  There were signs of life near what appeared to be the entrance so we walked that direction and poked a head through the front door.  The palace was indeed open and it wasn’t long before we found out why there weren’t many people there… the entrance fee was 350 Rupees.  Now that translates to only about $8 USD, but for locals that’s a lot of money.  Then when they saw our cameras they said we needed to buy a camera ticket too.  The camera ticket turned out to be 500 Rupees!  So for a total of just under $20 USD we had a wonderful afternoon wandering through the palace at our leisure taking as many photos as our hearts desired. I got my money’s worth.

Even the admission tickets were classy.
